The benefits of exercise are well known and varied, however during the antenatal and postnatal period it is especially important to exercise in the correct manner. At the LifeCare Willetton Physiotherapy centre, specialised exercise classes are offered for pregnant women and new mothers.

Mother and Baby Hydrotherapy

LifeCare Willetton Hydrotherapy exercise class offered between 8 weeks and 6 months postnatal, commencing with mother and baby introduction to water exercises, followed by postnatal aqua-aerobics class for new mums. Parent and Baby and Father and Baby classes are also offered.

Pilates Physiotherapy

As Pilates Physiotherapy is based around optimal posture as well as pelvic floor and deep abdominal muscle activation, it is an ideal way to exercise to recover after pregnancy.  

Our studio Pilates sessions are suitable for postnatal women following the six week postnatal medical check.  We recommend a one-on-one assessment with one of our Pilates Physiotherapists using the Real Time Ultrasound to ensure correct muscle activation. The assessment will also include a check for a diastasis of the rectus abdominal muscles. 

Following this an individual Pilates program will be set up and continually monitored and progressed as appropriate

Mother and Baby Pilates

Baby massage class, followed by Pilates mat, ball, and theraband exercise class for the mothers. These classes are ideal for a safe return to exercise after having a baby, and focus on posture, pelvic floor muscle and lower abdominal muscle training.
